Okinawa Counseling & Therapy

Thank you for visiting.

Living in Okinawa is exciting, but it’s also really tough and isolating at times.

Finding adequate English-speaking support can also be a challenge.

I’m here to help.

Beyond my training and experience in counseling psychology, my work is rooted in acceptance and understanding.

Our first session will be focused on understanding your challenges, your goals, and to make sure we’re a good fit for one another. If not, I can support in finding you appropriate services.

Common Concerns

“I don’t have enough time”

Life is very busy. At the the same time, when we say, “I don’t have time,” what we’re really saying is “It’s not a big enough priority yet.”

How big does the challenge need to become before it becomes a priority? Are you willing to let it become that big?

The earlier a client gets started, the less time they need to spend in therapy.

“Therapy is for people with big issues. I can do it on my own”

Every person I’ve worked with can do it alone, but chose not to.

Therapy is for people who want to make positive changes, to learn more about themselves and pick up practical psychology tools.

What I’ve learned from working with hundreds of clients is that we all have different stories, but ultimately we struggle with the same issues. Just to varying degrees.

“Okinawa is a small community. I’m concerned someone will find out I’m seeing you”

I follow confidentiality standards consistent with California law and take this very seriously.

We live in a very small community and I take extra caution to not only protect the stories of my clients, but also protect the fact they are seeing me.

You can learn more about confidentiality here.

People typically contact me for one of three reasons:

  • There are no major challenges. The person is looking for a sounding board on a particular area of their life.
  • Day-to-day things are ok, however, the person is experiencing significant uncomfortable emotions.
  • Functioning day-to-day is a challenge and solving the issue doesn’t seem possible.
